Barb Mattered

The quiet, awkward girl who gets eaten by a Demogorgon.

On November 8th, 1983 — Barbara Holland, who was believed to help a strange girl seen around town in Hawkins, was an inspiration to all of us.

With her chic fashion sense, her loyalty in friendships, and her seemingly, visible bra-detecting skills, Barb was someone who would always stay by your side.

Unfortunately for Barb, she was served as monster food for a gruesome creature that lurked out of nowhere at a pool party. Witnesses have reported that she had arrived with her then-best friend, Nancy Wheeler.

Sadly, the town of Hawkins treated her death like losing a half-broken umbrella. And today, here in Vancouver, we are mourning for her.

We had an interview with Steve Harrington recently, who was Nancy’s boyfriend at the time. “I wish she was here to help share my babysitting duties,” he says.

Steve has started his own side hustle after becoming the CEO of Scoops Ahoy. He has been feeling partially responsible for her death for the last 36 years.

Her remains have been spotted in The Upside Down since and it’s been reported that she even had a slug in her mouth.

If Barb was still alive, she’d be here inspiring us to be true to ourselves. There’s no denying that she left a hole in our hearts that will never be filled.
